Our priorities

Our plans for the future must reflect the needs of local people, take into account national guidelines, address health inequalities and ensure value for money.

They must also recognise the challenges we face as a result of a growing local population, an increasing number of people with long-term conditions and the availability of more innovative technologies, drugs and treatments.

In addition, while setting out our priorities, we have to acknowledge the CCG’s financial position and the need to deliver sufficient savings to enable us to fund our plans and balance our books. It’s clear that in the longer term we will also have to make some difficult decisions about what we can and cannot afford to commission.

2016/17

Our main focus during 2016-17 is very much a continuation of the work started in 2015-16. We aim to commission services that deliver care in a timely way, closer to where people live and, as a consequence, reduce the occasions where hospital admission is required.

The key areas are:

  • Delivering more care closer to home.
  • Sustainability and quality of primary care.
  • High quality hospital services.
  • Safe and effective services.

A new way of working

Nationally, the NHS is taking a new approach to help ensure that health and care services are built around the needs of local populations. To do this, every health and care system in England will produce a five-year Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP), showing how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years – ultimately delivering the Five Year Forward View vision of better health, better patient care and improved NHS efficiency.

Along with partner organisations across West Yorkshire, we are in the process of developing a five year Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP). The STP will set out how we will work together with a range of partners, providers and commissioners across health and social care in Kirklees to deliver the NHS Five Year Forward View.
