Greater Huddersfield CCG is reminding patients that GPs are here for you longer this winter with appointments available in the evenings and weekends.

The availability of GP appointments outside of traditional working hours reduces pressure on both general practice and hospital emergency departments by providing patients with more choice, greater convenience and increased access to healthcare appointments, when and where they need them.

Pre-bookable and on the day GP appointments are available between 6.30pm – 8.30pm each weekday with slots also available on weekends 8.45am – 5.15pm at the Local Care Direct Hub based at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

All appointments can be booked through the patient’s own GP practice, or when your GP practice is closed, by calling NHS 111 for urgent non-life-threatening medical help. Some local GP practices also offer evening and weekend appointments at their surgery and patients will be offered the most appropriate appointment.

Dr Steve Ollerton, CCG Chair, said: “We know that some people can find it difficult to get an appointment at their surgery, particularly those with work and other day-time commitments. Winter can be seriously bad for your health. If you feel unwell don’t wait until it gets worse, book an appointment to see a local GP, prevent your illness getting worse, access the correct healthcare when you need it and get well again sooner.”

GP appointments are available every day over the Christmas and New Year period but times will vary. Appointments can be booked through GP Practices as normal, unless the surgery is closed then they can only be booked through NHS 111.

In addition to GP appointments, pharmacist appointments are also available to all patients in Greater Huddersfield. They can be booked through GP practices and are available between 6.30-8.00pm weekdays and 12.00-3.00pm on weekends.

Pre-bookable and on the day appointments for physiotherapy and blood tests are also available at the Hub. Blood tests can be taken Saturdays between 9.00am-1.00pm, patients must collect a blood form from their GP practice before attending. Physio appointments are available on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday across three locations including the Local Care Direct Hub at HRI, Holmfirth and Armitage Bridge.
